The Fayette County Public Library 2009 Teen Summer Reading Program is scheduled for a big finish on Thursday, July 30, when local teen musical groups of all types compete in a “Battle of the Bands” on the library lawn starting at 4:30 p.m. The competition is open to bands with members of ages 12 to 19, with an entry deadline of Monday, July 20.

Among the requirements musical groups must meet in order to participate in the Teen Battle of the Bands are:

• Bands must consist of at least two members, at least one of whom plays an instrument throughout most of the performance.

• The entire performance must be live, with no prerecorded music.

• The entire performance must be free of obscenity and violence, and suitable for a family audience.

Additional rules and regulations for the competition apply, and are available upon request from the Fayette County Public Library in Fayetteville. Those interested in entering the Teen Battle of the Bands should pick up a registration form at the main desk of the library, and return the completed form to the same location no later than 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 20.

Friends, family, and fans of the competing bands are encouraged to show up for the free public event on Thursday, July 30 at 4:30 p.m. with T-shirts and signs that flaunt their enthusiasm for the performers they support. The public is invited to come enjoy the music. An added attraction will be the chance to try free samples from local pizza parlors.

The Fayette County Public Library is located behind the Fayette County administrative complex in downtown Fayetteville, at the southwest corner of Highways #85 and #54.
