Barbara Burdette Williams, 78, Newnan, died July 3, 2009. She was born March 15, 1931 in Washington, Ga. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Edward and Annie Laurie Drinkard Burdette Sr., and a son, W. Walter Williams III. Following graduation from Washington High School, she was graduated from Bessie Tift College in 1952 with an AB degree. She did graduate study at the University of Georgia and West Georgia College, and came to Newnan in 1952. She was a member of Central Baptist Church where she served in the children's department and playing the piano. She was a former member of the Newnan Hospital Auxiliary, the Newnan Junior Service League, and the Driftwood Garden Club. She was named teacher of the year at Grantville Brown School in 1992. Graveside service was at Rest Haven Cemetery, Washington, Ga. with the Rev. Dr. Joel Richardson officiating.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, W. W. Williams Jr.; daughters, the Rev. Ann Burdette Williams and the Rev. Paul David Steinke, Brooklyn, N. Y., Jane Kelly Williams and David Thomas Richards, Tenafly, N. J.; a granddaughter, Willa Kate Richards; step-grandchildren, David and Lauren Steinke, Jonathan and Nicole Steinke, and Darcy Steinke and Mike Hudson; a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Edward Burdette Jr., Washington, Ga. sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Forest Clinton Castellaw, Lenora, N. C., Mr. and Mrs. John Harvey Edwards, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Strother, all of Washington, D. C. McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.
