Members of the Coweta County Development Authority (CCDA) attended the July 7 county commission meeting to thank the board for supporting efforts that is resulting in the creation of hundreds of new jobs with the addition of Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) and D&H Distributing.

The recent announcement by CTCA to locate in Newnan will result in the creation of 400-500 jobs, said CCDA’s Mike Barber, adding that entry of D&H in northeast Coweta near I-85 has already resulted in the creation of 100 jobs with up to another 50 anticipated.

“These couldn’t have happened without your support,” Barber said, noting that landing large employers often requires extended efforts and numerous visits.

Barber acknowledged Commissioner Rodney Brooks and former Commission Chairman Tim Higgins for their participation in a visit to a CTCA facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma and thanked Brooks, Commission Chairman Paul Poole and County Administrator Theron Gay for their help and support in meeting with CTCA representatives in Coweta.

“It takes a lot of extra effort to land businesses,” Barber said, adding that the Development Authority has a number of other prospects.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America announced in June that it will locate its first Southeastern U.S. facility in Newnan with the expectation of serving patients from across the geographic region. The company will create upwards of 500 jobs and invest $150 million over the first five years of operation.

CTCA representatives said the company expects the new facility to generate $500 million in economic activity within five years of opening. With more than two-thirds of its patients expected to come from outside the state of Georgia, patients and their families will contribute to the growth and vitality of the local economy, they said.

D&H Distributing, the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania computer products and consumer electronic company, recently opened a 476,000 square-foot high-tech distribution center off Sharpsburg McCollum road near I-85. The state-of-the-art facility brought approximately 100 jobs with the likelihood of adding another 50 to its employment roles.

“Atlanta is strategic for us in being able to optimize our business, in addition to being a potential growth area, and an attractive business community in general,” said Michael Schwab, co-president at D&H Distributing.

Also during their remarks, CCDA President David Brown acknowledged outgoing President Bill Harrison for his unceasing efforts over the years to promote Coweta County.
