Fayette approves rezoning from residential for doctorTue, 06/30/2009 - 3:55pm
By: John Munford
The Fayette County Commission Thursday approved a rezoning last week that will allow a medical clinic to be built on four residential lots bordering Ga. Highway 54 near Old Norton Road. The rezoning changes the land use designation from R-40 residential to office institutional. The applicant is Kenneth J. Lazarus of the Southern Crescent Neurological Clinic. Randy Boyd, representing Lazarus, noted that the proposed building would be 7,100 square feet and that property to the east and the west is also zoned for office institutional use. Boyd also said a study of land use near Piedmont Fayette Hospital several years ago, undertaken in a joint venture by Fayette County and the City of Fayetteville, had recommended the four parcels be rezoned for office institutional use. No one spoke in favor of, or against, the rezoning of the 3.79-acre site, which was originally platted in 1981 as part of the Ledgewood subdivision. Boyd noted that the widening of Ga. Highway 54 in 1989 took some of the land from these lots. The vote to approve the rezoning was 3-0, with Commissioner Eric Maxwell abstaining and leaving the room for the discussion because Lazarus contributed to his election campaign. login to post comments |
