EMC’s Operation Round-Up

Palmetto, GA – June 22, 2009 – The youngest residents of the Christian City community now have the world at their fingertips, thanks to four computers recently donated by Coweta-Fayette EMC’s Operation Round-Up program.

The Children’s Village – a collection of cottages providing children in crisis a traditional family unit in a loving and supportive environment – was awarded the $4,800 in equipment to further the education of those who often arrive with nothing but the shirts on their backs and few belongings. Christian City, Inc., a nonprofit, nondenominational, safe-haven facility, has served as “home” to over 1,000 abandoned, abused and neglected children for the past 43 years. Located on a 500-acre campus in Union City, the organization also provides care for seniors and families in turmoil.

“The rewards of helping these children – of investing in their lives – are immeasurable,” said Coweta-Fayette CEO Anthony H. “Tony” Sinclair. “We are proud to help this great organization nurture and educate those in such desperate need.”

The Operation Round-Up Trust funded several other projects over the past few months, including $3,000 to Community Welcome House, $5,000 to the Fayette County Lion’s Club, almost $2,000 to the Fayette County Special Olympics and $9,000 to Fayette Samaritans.

Operation Round Up is a Coweta-Fayette EMC program that contributes more than $100,000 each year to worthy groups in the EMC service area. These awards are funded through voluntary contributions of EMC members whose monthly electric bills are “rounded up” to the nearest dollar. The difference between what is actually owed and the next highest dollar is placed in an interest-bearing account, and these funds are managed through a separate board of directors, The Coweta-Fayette EMC Trust.
