Two PTC Boy Scouts earned the rank of Eagle Scout recently. Asato Masuyama and Nathan Whatley completed the requirements of Eagle Scout rank this spring and were honored at a Boy Scout Court of Honor on Sunday, May 24 at the Scout Hut behind Peachtree City United Methodist Church (PTCUMC). Asato, the son of Yuzaburo and Emiko Masuyama, and Nathan, son of Ute and Jeff Whatley, began Scouting as Tiger Cubs in 1997 and joined Troop 75 in 2002. Troop 75 is sponsored by the United Methodist Men’s Club of PTCUMC. For their Eagle projects Nathan organized construction of a cover for bleachers at the Fayette County 4H Shooting Club and Asato built three frames for the American Flags flown over the Capital, in Afghanistan and in Iraq during the war. They were hung at Starr's Mill High School's rotunda. Asato and Nathan would like to thank all the people who supported them over the years, especially former Troop 75 Scoutmasters Gary Cason, Carl Lowry, Scott Ash, George Fox and Greg Quandt, current Scoutmaster Bill Gray, Assistant Scoutmaster Jay Weiss and all those who support scouting financially by buying popcorn from Scouts and pine straw and fertilizer from the Men’s Club. The new Eagle Scouts had a busy week, graduating from Starr’s Mill High School on Friday, May 29. Asato will attend Georgia Tech and Nathan, Georgia Southern, in the fall. login to post comments |
