Mildred A. Mitchell, 96, died May 16, 2009. She was born Sept. 27, 1912 in Moreland. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Pete and Annie Bell Arnold, her husband, Gordon Mitchell, six children, and her five siblings.. She was a member of China Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, served as the church treasurer, and was an active member of the Mother Board and the Christian Savings Club. In 1997 she was honored by the Neweta Club of the National Association of Business and Professional Women's Clubs, was Mother of the Year and in 1999 the mayor of Turin signed a proclamation declaring Oct. 23, 1999 as Mildred Mitchell Day in honor of her years of dedication to family, church, and community. Services were at the China Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Turin, with the Rev. Harold Kilgour III, officiating. Interment was at the T & M Memorial Garden. Survivors include a son, Gordon and Cassandra Mitchell, Sharpsburg; daughters, Annie Bell Thompson, Newnan, Mildred Mitchell and Marie Mitchell, both of Fairburn, and Brenda and Allen Strozier, Riverdale; daughters-in-law, Johnnie Mitchell and Gladys Mitchell; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; four nephews; and four nieces. Roscoe Jenkins Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge. login to post comments |
