The new D&H Distribution Center for consumer electronics and associated products located in Coweta Industrial Park held its grand opening June 12. The state-of-the-art facility employs 100, with a goal of adding another 40 employees. The largest of the 91 year-old company’s facilities, it incorporates cutting-edge automation, environmentally conservative equipment, recycling facilities and more. At a current 476,000 square-feet, the location can be expanded up to more than 750,000 square-feet to accommodate growth. Speaking to employees and guests outside the facility June 12, company Co-President Michael Schwab spoke about the 91 year-old family business with its customer-oriented approach, the new Coweta facility and the company’s commitment to employees through its stock-ownership program. “This is the largest facility we’ve ever built. It’s twice as big as our facilities in Chicago, Pennsylvania or on the West Coast,” Schwab said of the distribution center. “We can expand another 280,000 square feet and we plan on expanding. We expect 30 percent of the company’s transactions to go through the Coweta facility.” Anything you can buy at Best Buy is what we ship here, Schwab said. The new distribution center will service D&H territories including the Southeast and areas of the Midwest, allowing D&H customers in these regions to receive complete shipments faster than they have before, with lower shipping costs, the company said. “Atlanta is strategic for us in being able to optimize our business, in addition to being a potential growth area, and an attractive business community in general,” Schwab said in a previous statement. “We look forward to being a part of greater Coweta County.” Attending the grand opening were Coweta County Administrator Theron Gay and Coweta County Development Authority Chairman David Brown. “It takes a team effort to attract businesses like D&H,” Brown said. “We’re excited about them being here. This is just the beginning of our partnership with them.” A trip inside the revealed a three-level interior, complete with 2.5 miles of computerized conveyor system over which retailers like Amazon.com, D&H’s largest customer, rely on to have their orders filled and shipped across the Southeast and beyond. In addition to its Harrisburg headquarters and warehouse facilities, D&H has distribution centers in Chicago, Fresno and Mississauga, Ontario. D&H Distributing is a family-owned, ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company. The company is also involved in community causes and charities such as Habitat for Humanity and its “D&H Cares” foundation. login to post comments |
