Thirteen wrestlers finish in top six of their weight classesTue, 02/14/2006 - 3:28pm

The state wrestling championships took place at the Arena at Gwinnett Center last weekend and a number of local wrestlers represented their schools well.
Three local guys took home individual state championships. Starr’s Mill’s Bradley Conner won the 275 pound weight class in AAAAA, while East Coweta’s Tim Johnson won the 189 pound weight class in the AAAAA tournament, while Whitewater’s Jordan Strain won the 140 pound weight class. Starr’s Mill also had a second place finisher, Cory Radcliffe (140) and a fourth place finisher, Brandon Witta (145). Fayette County’s Audy Whittington placed fourth in the 171 pound weight class. In the overall standings, Starr’s Mill placed fifth, East Coweta placed 18th and Fayette County placed 26th. In the AAAA tournament, Northgate had three wrestlers place in the top six in their respective weight classes; Drew Garner (275) placed second, Paul Sanford (119) placed third and Josh Crager (125) placed fifth. Overall, Northgate placed ninth, Whitewater tied for 20th, Sandy Creek placed 40th and McIntosh placed 58th. In the Class A meet, Landmark Christian School placed 13th and Our Lady of Mercy placed 20th. Landmark’s Chad Thames (103) placed third while Mercy’s Clint Ford (103) placed fifth. Landmark’s Roger Gunter (135) placed sixth, as did Landmark’s Tim Creamer (189). login to post comments |
