Joe Olin Mangum Jr.

Joe Olin Mangum Jr., 88, Fayetteville, died June 6, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Katherine Thompson Mangum. He grew up in Atlanta and attended Boys High School and Georgia Tech. He earned his pilot's license as a teenager and flew for the Civil Air Patrol during World War II and then flew for Delta Airlines for over a decade. He then worked in flight operations at Delta for many years, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed his hobbies of model airplanes, gardening and collecting and cutting gems. He was a member of Inman United Methodist Church.

Graveside services were at Inman United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Burrell officiating. Survivors include his children, Doris Harvey, Patricia and Bill Bernat, and Joe and Jane Mangum; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and caregiver, Paula White. Memorial donations may be given to the Inman United Methodist Church, 151Hillsbridge Rd., Fayetteville, GA 30215. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
