Fayette Senior Services is proud to present "Powerful Tools for Caregivers," a 6-week educational program that is designed to teach family caregivers how to take better care of themselves as they care for others.

Beginning June 10 - July 15 each of the 2? hour classes will focus on different aspects of care giving and offer tips to help ease the stress of caring for a family member. You will learn methods to help reduce personal stress, communicate more effectively with family members and healthcare providers, deal with the difficult feeling of guilt, loss, and isolation, and make difficult care giving decisions including living arrangements, driving issues and finances.

The six weekly classes will be held on Wednesday from from1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Fayette Senior Services’ Life Enrichment Center located at 4 Center Drive in Fayetteville. This highly informative program is only $30 per person and includes The Caregiver Helpbook developed specifically for this class.

If you are still not convinced this class is for you think about these findings from the Caregiving4Alz.com and CARE.com websites:

• Three-quarters of caregivers do not get consistent help from family members, especially spousal caregivers.

• Forty-three percent of caregivers for Alzheimer’s patients fall into a clinical depression that can linger for years, even after the loved one dies.

• Some statistics show that 30% of caregivers die before those they are caring for.

• Elderly caregivers with a chronic illness themselves have a 63% higher mortality rate than their non caregiving peers.

Please plan to attend and take that first step to HELP yourself. If you have questions regarding respite for your family member or need scholarship assistance, please contact Susan Landais at 770-461-0813, ext 115.
