Summer camp with a fun twistWed, 06/03/2009 - 9:31am
By: The Citizen
This is no ordinary summer camp! The Camp Action Project is highly motivated toward providing at-risk youth in our community the opportunity to participate in a safe and fun environment for a 5-day experience, totally free of charge! The Camp Action Project is open to children, ages 8 to 14 years old, of foster care, single parent, and underprivileged homes. Camp t-shirt, afternoon meal, and activities are provided free through generous donations and sponsorships of private/public businesses and individuals throughout our community. Camp Action Project provides structured activities designed to develop unity, teamwork, leadership, mentorship, friendship, spirituality, as well as physical fitness. “We are dedicated to creating a memorable and fun experience for kids whom are normally not able to attend summer camps due to finances and the bad economy,” says Master Martial Arts instructor Tony Penaloza, cofounder and event director of The Camp Action Project. This sponsored event will be held daily at the Fellowship Hall of 1st Baptist Church of Peachtree City from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m., July 21-25. Premier Academy of Martial Arts and 1st Baptist Martial Arts Ministry will provide supervision. Activities and events include opening ceremonies, guest speakers, Martial Arts training, life skills training, games, crafts, and a 12-event Olympics. Awards, certificates, medals, and trophies will be presented during the camps closing ceremony. Parents or families are encouraged to attend. For those who would like to sign up for Camp Action, please send an email to thecampactionproject@gmail.com. Please include the name and age of your child, phone number, email and/or mailing information, and if your child has special needs, dietary requirements, food or drug allergies. All children must be physically evaluated and cleared by a doctor to participate in camp activities. The Camp Action Project is in need of businesses and individuals to partner up to assist in this special event. Anyone interested in sponsoring or volunteering should email thecampactionproject @gmail.com.
