Yard sale signs may soon be allowed again in Peachtree City.

The City Council will consider a measure Thursday night allowing yard sale signs, and real estate directional signs, to be used on a temporary basis.

When the City Council adopted its latest version of the sign ordinance in June, those signs were banned from use in the public right-of-way, to the consternation of many residents.

The proposed revision to the ordinance would allow them to be placed after 7 p.m. the evening prior to the sale; they must be removed at the completion of the sale on its last registered date.

And, as always, the city will only allow the use of yard sale signs sold at City Hall.

Additionally, the only writing allowed on the sign would be the date of the sale and the street address.

In addition to getting complaints from citizens holding yard sales, the city also heard from residents and visitors who were used to having the signs to guide their yard sale stops on Friday and Saturday mornings.

The city has allowed residents to advertise their yard sales on the city’s web site and will continue to do so, officials said.

The City Council meets at City Hall Thursday starting at 7 p.m.
