Obama is ‘the chosen one’? Let’s count why not

I felt compelled to respond to some of the comments I read in a letter included in the May 27 issue complaining about The Citizen’s cartoons bashing Obama.

Firstly, Obama supporters are very fortunate to have almost every media outlet to voice the opinions of the like-minded. CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, and CBS are all in the tank for this administration.

They also have most of the major newspapers like the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, New York Times, and the Washington Post to promote their agenda.

Even late night talk shows like Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien and Dave Letterman feel compelled to cheer-lead for the current president while vilely denigrating the former.

The writer also called the opposition party the “Grand Old Party of the Rich White Man.” Most of the Republicans I know are not old or rich, and many are not white.

Interestingly, Obama is praised and hailed by the media when nominating any minority. However, the nominees are raked over the coals when Republicans nominate people like Condeleeza Rice, Alberto Gonzales, Clarence Thomas, Sarah Palin and Michael Steele.

The writer also credits Obama for change and vision for our children and grandchildren. Here is a short list of the change I’ve seen so far:

1. Appeal of ban on partial birth abortion.

2. Greater concern for protecting rights of terrorists than the rights of the unborn.

3. Proposal to close Guantanamo Bay without any clear plan of what to do with the terrorists.

4. Selection of cabinet members including a Treasury Secretary who failed to pay taxes.

5. Has heaped a tax burden on our children and grandchildren than can probably never be repaid.

6. Obama has spent more money than all former presidents from George Washington to George W. Bush combined, while declaring to balance the national debt.

7. Gave a speech in Turkey proclaiming that America is no longer a Christian nation. Where did he get the authority to make such a statement?

8. Leaked important CIA interrogation techniques, putting our national security at risk.

9. Plans to socialize the greatest health care system in the world even while Canada and Europe warn that socialized medicine means rationed care, less qualified doctors and waiting months for treatment and in many cases denied treatment altogether.

10. Promised no earmarks but there were thousands in the stimulus bill.

11. Fired the CEO of a major corporation even though he had no authority to do so.

12. Refused to participate publicly in the National Day of Prayer (no other president has done this).

I cannot imagine how this kind of change is supposed to benefit our children and grandchildren.

To the writer: Obama is not the chosen one! This I know for sure. However, I can agree with the writer in stating that I will also pray for our leaders and our country.
