Shepherd Chosen for Hoby AwardFri, 05/29/2009 - 3:26pm

Nate Shepherd, a sophomore at Starr’s Mill High School, was recently awarded the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Award. Shepherd, a Boy Scout, class officer, and drummer for the school band will attend the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference this summer in conjunction with his award. Shepherd, a National Society of High School Scholars member, currently serves as Treasurer of the German Club. He was recently elected treasurer of Key Club, is a German Honor Society member, belongs to Beta Club and serves on the Principal’s Student Advisory Board at Starr’s Mill High School. About HOBY: Hugh O’Brian starred in hundreds of motion pictures and tv shows although he is immediately recognized for his portrayal of Wyatt Earp in the series “Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp” in the late 1950’s. In 1958, O’Brian founded the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership program. It’s mission is: “to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation. HOBY programs are conducted annually throughout the United States, serving local and international high school students. HOBY programs provide youth selected by their schools the opportunity to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning and motivation-building experiences. Due to the selfless efforts of volunteers and the contributions of generous donors, nearly 9,000 students participate in HOBY programs annually. Today, over 355,000 proud alumni make HOBY stronger than ever.
