A staple in the towing and accident recovery business in south Fulton County for nearly 20 years has opened a second location in Newnan with flat-rate towing in the city. Southside Wrecker Service opened its new 24-hour location in early May at 679C U.S. Highway 29.

Southside Wrecker was founded in Union City in 1981, with co-owners Jeff Poquette and Bart Lundy purchasing the business in 2008. Poquette said they decided to expand the company’s operations to better serve a growing client base in Newnan and the Coweta County area. Between Lundy and Poquette, they have more than 50 years experience in the towing and recovery industry.

“We provide prompt, professional towing and accident recovery services for private individuals as well as commercial accounts, several police departments and Georgia Dept. of Transportation,” Poquette said. “Our operators are Wreckmaster Certified and our Heavy Recovery Team has special training in tanker-truck recovery.”

Poquette said the company’s entire staff hold certifications in heavy and light duty towing and recovery, traffic control, Hazards Materials and quick clearance. Just as important, said Poquette, there are other factors that make Southside Wrecker Service unique.

“We have helpful, knowledgeable dispatchers and we have trained and courteous operators who are always in uniform. We also have well-equipped, clean, modern trucks, and we have a certified drug-free workplace,” Poquette explained, noting the company’s full service capability. “And we have the proper equipment to tow anything from golf carts and motorcycles to loaded tractor-trailers, dump trucks, cement mixers and all kinds of equipment. We also do jump-starts, lock-outs and tire changes.”

For all their experience, Poquette said the training never ends. Company representatives canvas the country for training opportunities that will continue to enhance Southside’s quality of service. And it is the attention to service and the needs of customers and the public that matters.

“We worked 15 truck wrecks on the interstate in 2008 where we had all lanes cleared in less then 90 minutes,” Poquette said. “Clearing all the lanes quickly surely leads to the satisfaction of all motorists who had been accustomed to 4-5 hours lanes closures.”

A final side to training and professionalism for any business involves the interaction with it customers.

“We treat all customers with courtesy and respect. Our success depends on each customer calling us the next time they need a towing service,” said Poquette. “We want people to give us a call and discuss their needs. We think they’ll be surprised when they find that we’re not the typical towing service.”
