Robert David Smith Sr.

Robert David "RD" Smith Sr., 89, Fayetteville, died May 19, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma McCray Smith. He was a 36-year pilot for Eastern Air Lines and a member of The Quiet Birdmen. He was an expert restorer of antique autos and a member and judge for The Antique Automobile Club of America. He was also a woodworker and a clock maker. He was a member of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Fellowship-Disciple Sunday School Class. Services were at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Westmoreland officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Survivors include sons, Robert Davis and Linda Waldrop Smith Jr., Chester, S. C., and Scotty McCray Smith Sr., Fayetteville; a daughter, Jeane and the Rev. Dr. David Brackman, Moreland; grandchildren, Elizabeth Smith and Brady Souder, and Rebecca Smith and Bryan Norris, all of Columbia, S.C., Susan Elizabeth Brackman, and Paul David Brackman, both of Moreland; great-grandchildren, Ben Souder, Marshall Souder, Rowland Souder, and William Norris; and a sister, Shirley Marie Smith Ramey. Memorial donations may be made to the Sunshine Ministry at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
