Civic authorities in PTC agree to form leadership coalitionFri, 05/22/2009 - 2:56pm

Communication is the only game in town. Developing a methodology to enhance communication and effectiveness between the various Peachtree City boards and authorities that work to bring business and jobs to the city was the topic of a meeting held May 13 at Falcon Field. Participants at the meeting agreed to form a leadership group coalition that would benefit the city by acting in concert to more effectively promote the Peachtree City community. Essentially an initial meeting to assess the need for further, enhanced communication between relevant groups, participants noted their areas of responsibility and often commented on how those areas overlapped or interfaced with those of others in the room. Members of one body were not always aware of the efforts and actions of other boards and authorities, participants said. “We’re all doing our thing,” Airport Authority Chairman Mike Brady said. “But we’re not always talking with each other and coordinating our efforts.” Those attending the meeting included representatives of Peachtree City Development Authority, Tourism Association, Airport Authority, Planning Commission and city government. Representatives from Recreation and the Water & Sewer Authority were not present but need to be included in future discussions along with a representative of the city, participants said. “The (Development Authority’s) Business Development Committee wanted to develop a working relationship with different authorities,” said board member Mark Hollums in addressing part of the impetus for calling the meeting. “The main thing is to reach out to the different authorities and develop ties with them to foster a closer working relationship.” The group reached a consensus that, at least initially, would have the chairmen from the various groups meet on a regular basis. City Clerk Betsy Tyler said she would check with city attorney Ted Meeker to determine the specifics required of the new leadership group. login to post comments |
