Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City will host two concerts this week, one on Friday, May 15, and the other on Sunday, May 17.

On Friday, May 15, at 7:30 p.m., Karla Dietmeyer will play her senior violin recital. Karla will graduate from Starr’s Mill High School May 29.

At Starr’s Mill, she was a featured performer with marching band and wind ensemble. She won the talent competition at Miss Starr’s Mill pageants, and won an award from the Lexus Scholarships program.

A vocalist and composer, too, she was selected to All State Chorus six years.

At Christ Our Shepherd Karla has rung handbells since elementary school, and she has played in Da Chiesa and sung with Sanctuary Choir.

Karla will play a varied program. The first half will include selections by Bach, Brahms and Beethoven, with pianist Pam Martin. After intermission she will invite her partner in “Ten-String Serenade,” acoustic guitarist Alex Hollums, to join her. Together they have played at local coffee houses.

For the jazz selections she will be joined by Frank Trembley and Mariano Pacetti. The program will also include “a little rock,” according to Karla.

Karla is the daughter of Karl and Cheryl Dietmeyer of Peachtree City. She will attend Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, this fall. A reception will follow the recital.

The annual Scholarship Concert to benefit Lutheran Summer Music (LSM) will take place on Sunday afternoon, May 17, at 3 p.m. Lutheran Summer Music is a month-long program for capable high school musicians who have the chance to cultivate their gifts with renowned teachers. Since the experience is costly, the church helps defray expenses with scholarships. Thrivent for Lutherans supplies matching funds.

LSM “alumni” soprano Amy Bonecutter, trombonist Brandon Rothfusz, and Karla Dietmeyer will perform. While at LSM, Karla won the concerto competition and was selected concert master for the orchestra.

Also performing will be the Christ Our Shepherd Saxophone Choir, Flute Choir, and Clarinet Choir, along with the Christ Our Shepherd Brass. The ensembles will combine for a memorable Grand Finale.

The public is invited to both events. The church is at the corner of Peachtree Parkway and Ga. Highway 54.
