The Sandy Creek Patriots (12-14) needed a win over Lithia Springs on Thursday afternoon to guarantee a return trip to the AAAA state playoffs.

They got it.

They jumped out to an early lead on the Lions and were able to win a close one, 62-58. Phillip Woo was the leading scorer for Sandy Creek with 12 points. The Patriots will now take on an Alexander team that has won two close games, the opener against Whitewater in double overtime and a two point win over Creekside last night. The two teams have yet to meet this season. Sandy Creek’s game with the Cougars is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. tonight.

Starr’s Mill ‘s Lady Panthers (16-11) knew that they had made it to the Class AAAAA state tournament but a win over Newnan on Thursday afternoon would have guaranteed a home game to kick things off. The Lady Cougars spolied those plans by handing Starr’s Mill a 49-27 loss. Starr’s Mill will take on Union Grove on Friday afternoon to see who will be the third seed out of region 4-AAAAA.

The McIntosh Chiefs state playoff hopes were dashed by a red hot Douglas County team on Thursday afternoon. The Chiefs (9-14) lost 78-39. Their leading scorer was Marcus Chisholm with nine points.

Landmark Christian School’s varsity boys were eliminated from the 5-A region tournament with a 65-34 loss to Whitefield Academy. Stoney Hill led the War Eagles (7-20) in scoring with 18 points.
