Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 2 for the Fayette County Master Gardener Association 2009 Spring Garden Tour and Plant Sale. Six gardens will be open for your enjoyment from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Two Dove Farms is on the tour this year, a 15-acre certified organic farm. Larry and Twila Dove will answer all your questions about growing organic fruits and vegetables, the use of hydroponics, raising chickens to provide fresh organic eggs, and the use of solar power, which provides 68 percent of the electrical needs for their home and farm. Also on the tour is the Native Garden, which was created by Fayette County Master Gardeners to highlight native plants of the Southeast. It is an intimate woodland garden consisting of 70 different plants located just outside the gates to the Frederick Brown Amphitheater in Peachtree City. There will be a lot of activities at the Fayette County Administrative Complex Gazebo, 140 Stonewall Avenue in Fayetteville, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The plant sale will have a wide variety of house plants, annuals, perennials, shrubs, and vegetable starts. There will be hundreds of plants available, as well as an assortment of gift items for Mother’s Day. There will free garden demonstrations throughout the day, a butterfly display garden hosted by Andy’s Nursery, and an “Ask a Master Gardener” booth. Garden passes can be purchased for $15 and are available at the Gazebo on the day of the tour, as well as the six gardens.
