Drake Field, located between City Hall and Lake Peachtree in Peachtree City, will be abuzz with activity Saturday as a host of activities are planned to commemorate Earth Day. The countywide event includes a number of activities for kids including an appearance from Captain Planet, the cartoon character and environmental superhero, who will appear at 10:15 a.m. There will also be hands-on activities for kids including backyard habitats, citizen’s science and the “Water in Our World” maze. The event lasts from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes a variety of entertainment along with green-themed exhibitors and vendors. At 10:30 a.m., Danielle Venokur will offer tips on eco-friendly party planning. At 11 a.m. the Fayette County Master Gardeners will make a presentation on butterflies and gardening. Also on display will be small 2x2 foot specialty gardens that will be auctioned off by the end of the event. Cardinal Sanitation and other vendors will be on hand to provide information about recycling. This is the first year that the county and all of its municipalities have joined together for a combined celebration of Earth Day. The event is coordinated by the Environmental Institute of Georgia. On Saturday, April 25, during the Earth Day Clean Up in Tyrone, the town will also have Creative Recycling going on at the Tyrone Town Hall from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. in the Town Hall parking lot 882 Senoia Rd. A PDF form can be downloaded and printed off at www.tyrone.org in the Earth Day section. Go through the list and then take to your business, schools or home and find items that can be recycled. Bring the items that day and you will be helping the environment in your community.
