The Coweta County Board of Education is expected to name two new principals next week during its board meeting.

School system spokesperson Dean Jackson said Superintendent of Education Blake Bass is meeting with the school councils at Northside Elementary and East Coweta High early next week to discuss possible candidates.

The school system currently has an opening at Northside, where Tom McCormack recently resigned. Jackson also said that East Coweta Principal Kirk Stallings has announced that he’s retiring at the end of the school year.

“At the end of this year, he’ll have 35 years in education, with 25 of them in Coweta County. The last five years he was principal at East Coweta,” Jackson said.

He added the system is eager to find a replacement for Stallings so new high school students will know who their principal is before the school year begins.

The board meets at 6:30 p.m. at its headquarters on Jackson Street in Newnan.
