A minor traffic violation was going to lead to just a warning for a moving truck driver on north Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville around 5 p.m. this afternoon.

But a computer check of the tag on the truck showed that it had been stolen Dec. 15 from Jonesboro, and the driver was arrested, said Maj. Bryan Woodie of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.

Jerry Wayne Simpson, 42, of Jonesboro was charged with theft by receiving stolen property and driving with defective equipment, Woodie said.

Simpson was arrested without incident and apparently did not realize that the Ryder truck had been reported stolen, Woodie said.
