Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shelton Huckaby Jr. of Fayetteville announce the engagement of their daughter, Amy Diane Huckaby, to Robert Edgar Howell III of Montgomery, Ala., son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edgar Howell Jr., also of Montgomery.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shelton Huckaby Sr. of Fayetteville and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Glenn Ward, also of Fayetteville. She is the great-granddaughter of Mrs. Ruby Mays Huckaby of Fayetteville. She is a 2001 graduate of Vidalia High School and a 2004 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia with a bachelor of science degree in cellular biology. In May, 2009, she will receive a doctor of optometry degree from the School of Optometry at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, and will enter private practice in Chattanooga, Tenn. in June of 2009.

The groom-elect is the grandson of the late Dr. and Mrs. Robert Edgar Howell Sr. of Dothan Ala., and Mrs. Cornelia Morrell Dowling, also of Dothan, and the late Horace Billy Dowling. He is a 2000 graduate of Saint James High School, Montgomery, Ala., and a 2005 summa cum laude graduate of Auburn University where he received a bachelor of science degree in molecular biology and was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. In May, 2009, he will graduate from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and in July, 2009, through the University of Tennessee, will begin his medical residency in orthopedic surgery at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.

The wedding will be June 6, 2009, at Fayetteville First Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
