Leave PTC’s sign rules as they are

I note in a front page article by John Munford, “Peachtree City may relax sign rules for businesses” (The Citizen Weekend, March 14-15, 2009), Mayor Harold Logsdon states it might be worthwhile allowing “very limited changes” in PTC’s sign ordinances for a specific, limited period of time. The proposed changes would include allowing large signs in business windows and outdoor banners.

And I thought that all the criticism of our mayor (and a couple of council members) was just a lot of sour grapes from folks whose candidate(s) lost in the last city election. Boy, was I wrong.

These people really DON”T get it, as some have said. They simply don’t understand that Peachtree City is a special, unique and precious place. They don’t understand that there is simply no place else on planet earth like Peachtree City, that it’s like a rare, priceless masterpiece painting and when it is destroyed due to people who don’t understand and appreciate its uniqueness ... it is gone forever.

Mr. Mayor, and council members, the huge majority of Peachtree City citizens don’t want any sign ordinance changes ... period!

Granted, businesses are having it rough right now, but large window signs and banners such as are being proposed will only turn off Peachtree Citians, not get them into businesses.

All of us know where practically every store, restaurant and shop is in Peachtree City. We don’t need trashy banners to show us the way.

If businesses need to call attention to something special they are offering, they should advertise in the newspaper or send us a flyer in the mail.

Mr. Mayor (and council), I’m going to say this only once. Peachtree City is not Riverdale, and Ga. Highway 54 is not Ga. Highway 85. Do you understand? Do you get it?

Listen to the people who elected you or be prepared for the people to “un-elect” you next election.
