Registration to secure a spot in next year’s limited-space Pre-K classes is ongoing in Coweta County’s elementary schools through March 20.

During that time, parents can apply for a spot at their child’s district school by stopping by the school and filling out a quick registration sheet. Parents can call call 770-254-2820 to inquire about which elementary school district serves their home.

A drawing for the limited spots will be held on Friday, March 20, once registration ends at noon on that day. After the lottery drawing, parents who have secured a spot for their four-year-olds will be able to formally enroll their child for 2009-10 Pre-Kindergarten in April.

Enrollment for next year’s Pre-K classes will be held on different weeks at the Central Registration Center, depending on which elementary school a child will attend, between March 30 and May 1 (check the calendar below for details).

New student registration is held at the Central Registration Center at 167 Werz Boulevard in Newnan (call 770-254-5551 for more details, or visit www.cowetaschools.org/registration). Early registration for new Kindergarten students will be held separately between May 4 and May 29.

Children must be four years old on or before September 1, 2009 to be eligible for next year’s Pre-K, and must be five years old before September 1 to enroll in Kindergarten.

Following the March Pre-K lottery at district schools, the dates for Pre-K registration at the Central Registration Center will be:

·Brooks, Welch, Western, White Oak and Willis Road - March 30 to April 3

·Arbor Springs, Arnco-Sargent, Canongate, Glanton, and Thomas Crossroads to April 13 to April 17

·Jefferson Parkway (includes Pre-Kindergarten classes for Northside, Ruth Hill, Elm Street, Atkinson, and Jefferson Parkway) - April 20 to April 24

·Eastside, Moreland, Newnan Crossing and Poplar Road - April 27 to May 1

Before a child can be enrolled in a Pre-Kindergarten class in the Coweta County School System, parents will first need to secure a space for their child by entering their name in a Pre-Kindergarten lottery drawing between Monday, March 9 and noon on Friday, March 20.

Unlike other elementary school grades, there are a limited number of Pre-K classes in Coweta schools. If more than 20 students apply for an available Pre-K class, the school must hold a lottery drawing to determine placement in the class.

Pre-K students  in the Northside, Ruth Hill, Elm Street, Atkinson, and Jefferson Parkway districts will apply for slots at Jefferson Parkway Elementary School, since those schools’ Pre-K classes are located at Jefferson Parkway. All other students should apply at their district school.

To apply, parents must visit their districted school and complete a Coweta County Pre-K registration form for each child. The parent will cut off the registration portion of the form and place it in the lottery box at the school site.

Elementary schools will accept Pre-K applications for eligible students on Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the period. To accommodate parents’ work schedules, all schools will hold an expanded lottery enrollment day from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on March 17.

No enrollment documentation is required to apply for the Pre-K lottery, but parents should be certain that they are applying at their correct district school (call 770-254-2820 to inquire about which elementary school district serves a home).

Parents do not need to be present for the drawing on March 20. The names of students who are not selected will be placed on a waiting list for that class.

Parents whose children are selected by lottery will then formally register their child in the their child in the Coweta County School System during April Pre-K enrollment at the school system’s Central Registration Center, on Werz Industrial Drive in Newnan.

Georgia’s four-year-old Pre-Kindergarten classes are also offered at private day care centers around Coweta County, which register students separately.

More information about registration times and procedures can be found at district schools, or by calling the registration office at 770-254-5551. Information about new student registration, printable registration forms and directions to the Central Office can also be found at www.cowetaschools.org.

Parents are asked to call the Werz Boulevard Central Registration Center at 770-254-5551 to schedule an appointment during their school’s registration week.

During the April Pre-K and May and Kindergarten registration period, the Central Registration Center’s hours of operation will be: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Thursdays: 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

After School programs are also available at Coweta County schools, and parents can inquire about fees and times at their district school.
