Pfeifer, Dunn feud with officials

Commissioner Peter Pfeifer, you’re getting a little shaky. If the disruptive County Commission would stop making every issue an “us vs. them” scenario, the taxpayers would be a lot better off. Constitutional officers have explicit duties under the Georgia Constitution and they are, in fact, accountable to the taxpayers because we vote them in or out.

Here’s a bold idea for the Dunn administration, try to build relationships with the constitutional officers instead of always smacking them around.

The main reason Peter decided to run for the County Commission, supposedly, was because of his desire to increase the level of cooperation between the county government and the city governments in the county.

Since Peter and Chairman Dunn have been in office the commission has continuously fought with the constitutional officers and the cities.

I remember when (candidate) Peter pledged his best effort to work out issues and differences in a spirit of cooperation. Once upon a time, Peter pledged not to write letters about public officials in the newspaper. Now, he batters them in the newspaper.

Peter tells everyone that his number one priority for government is public safety and the courts. The actions of Peter and cohort Chairman Dunn speak louder than their words.

Instead of working with the sheriff, you’ve tied his department in knots. When the Fayette County Solicitor General James Inagawa approached the commission with a request, he was verbally abused. My friends in Peachtree City are saying they are being taxed for emergency medical services and a county ambulance never enters the city.

The county Board of Commissioners needs to operate in a manner that generates trust and confidence between our public officials. I like being able to shop in Fayetteville and Peachtree City. I like the fact that our sheriff has a drug task force that punishes the drug dealers. I always want our libraries to always be great places for learning. Peter’s exploitation of our county needs to stop immediately.

Chairman Dunn’s ambition to be Sheriff Andy Griffith so he can rule over the county and the cities with a gun has gotten way out of hand. Peter wants to become Dunn’s Deputy Barney Fife without, hopefully, a gun. Sheriff Johnson is a law enforcement professional. Please get out of his way and let him do his job.
