The Fayette County Historical Society will be honoring the originators of Honor Flight Fayette at its meeting this Sunday, March 15. It will be at 3 p.m. at its Margaret Mitchell Research building at the corner of Lee and Johnson streets.
Honor Flight Fayette was conceived by Gail Sparrow, a retired Fayette County history teacher over two years ago.

The idea of honoring World War II veterans with a trip to see the World War II monument in Washington, D. C. at no charge to the veteran, was first put together in 2004 and is now a national organization.

Sparrow, along with Mark Buckner, will be honored by the society for their efforts in seeing that over 200 Fayette County area veterans have been flown to see this memorial absolutely free.

The first trip was last May, with two more in 2008, and the next flight is this coming May.

You do not have to be a member to attend the society meetings, and the public is invited.
