Tax-cutting mayor? Apparently just campaign talk

Our “tax-cutting” mayor is off to a dreadful start. All of the Peachtree City Council agendas are full of fee increases.

Why can’t the self-proclaimed financial expert figure out a way to cut the budget to cover his growing list of fee increases? It appears that his budget reduction rhetoric during the election was nothing more than campaign speak. He never had a plan.

Miraculously, the same budget that was out of kilter in November, according to the mayor, is now tolerable. The mayor even spoke in favor of creating a monopoly on trash pick-up, but backed down at the meeting when we showed up to complain. He is also in favor of the “rain tax.”

We heard at the meeting that the mayor is also looking to make a multimillion-dollar deal to pay off the indebtedness with the tennis center chaos using our tax dollars. Some of us have lost our disposable income and then some.

With any luck, the mayor won’t let the “empty suit” label stick and he’ll start putting money back in our pockets instead of the other way around. Our regret for not electing Dar Thompson is growing week by week.
