John Gronner lauded as friend, trusted advisor

Building named for PTC sewer advocate

A Peachtree City man who served nearly 15 years in a volunteer capacity with the city sewer system was recognized posthumously Monday night.

The city’s Water and Sewer Authority officially renamed its administrative building after John Gronner, who served much of his time as chairman.

Gronner’s wife Debbie, who attended the ceremony with more than two dozen family members and friends, said sewer was a topic her husband “was passionate about.”

WASA General Manager Larry Turner said John Gronner played a key role in bringing the sewer system to its positive financial status of today.

WASA member Mike Harman joked that he didn’t want to give Gronner all the credit, but said Gronner was largely responsible for the system’s success.

“He was always a good friend to me,” Harman said, recalling how woodwork was a shared passion for them, and how Gronner would keep him up to date on his latest woodworking projects.

Harman said he and Gronner always saw issues eye to eye, and on the one occasion their vote was split, Harman came to believe in hindsight that Gronner was right after all.

“He’s going to be sorely missed by everybody that knew him,” Harman said.

WASA member Wade Williams said Gronner was always very positive, “even during his most trying times.”

Gronner died in January after a bout with cancer.

A plaque commemorating Gronner’s service will be installed on the exterior of the WASA administration building.
