• Fayetteville’s Josh Blackman, a junior at the United States Naval Academy and member of the U.S. Men’s Gymnastics Team, won the rings at the James Madison Invitational over the weekend with a season high score of 9.35. He is ranked sixth nationally on the rings.

• Peachtree City’s Omar Jarun was selected in the United Soccer League’s first division draft by the Atlanta Silverbacks. Jarun, a McIntosh graduate, played at the University of Dayton and led the Dayton Flyers to the semi-finals of the 2005 Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Championship. Jarun was named All-Atlantic 10 after finishing second in the conference with 10 goals scored. He transferred to the University of Dayton after two years at the University of Memphis. Jarun is no stranger to the USL, he played for the 2005 PDL Great Lakes Division Champion - the Chicago Fire Premier, and also for the 2004 Fort Wayne Fever. Jarun cultivated his soccer skills on the south side of Atlanta, helping his AFC Lightning club team win a regional title and leading his McIntosh High School team to a AAAA Georgia State Championship in 2000.

• Ohio State University sophomore Amelia Gaillard of Fayetteville, Ga., who placed seventh in the nation in sabre last year, went 14-2 in foil during the weekend at the Notre Dame Duals, her first collegiate competition in that weapon.

• Atlanta Motor Speedway hosted a Winter Flurry race on Saturday. Locals who did well were: Peachtree City’s Ed Clark, first in Roadster, Brooks’ Matt Dooley, 10th in Bandolero Bandits and Brooks’ Billy Fulson, 14th in Legends.
