Fayette County Public Library presents its 11th annual Blended Heritage Celebration this Friday The Fayette County Public Library and the Friends of the Fayette County Public Library proudly announce the 11th Annual Blended Heritage Celebration, a free performing arts extravaganza at the Fayette County Public Library on Friday, February 27 at 6:30 p.m. Once again, a very special evening of music, poetry, dance, and food is planned, and the community is invited to attend free of charge. In keeping with this year’s theme of “This Little Light of Mine,” the 2009 Blended Heritage Celebration features a stellar lineup of local talent. Poet (and soon-to-be novelist) Collin Kelley will recite his original theme poem, composed especially for the occasion. Instrumental music from jazz to old-time country to classical will be served up by the Allen Goodman Band (featuring saxophonist Nick Longo), banjo player David Ellis, and oboist Anthony Buzzard. Voices will ring out in song: Jennifer Stadelmeyer sings Gershwin, Joanna Maddox channels Tina Turner, and the Griffin Shape Note Singers revive the art form of sacred harp singing. Returning dance favorites from previous years’ events include Terrence “Taps” and belly dancers led by Marketa Sudkova. And of course, Dr. Ferrol Sams, veteran of many Blended Heritage events, will read an excerpt from his new book in progress. Complimentary refreshments will be available before and after the performance, catered by Robert Clark Catering Service, A Touch of New Orleans Catering Service, and Starbucks Coffee of South Fayetteville. The Blended Heritage Celebration at the Fayette County Public Library has become the must-attend event of every February in Fayette County. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet and mingle with your neighbors and celebrate the bright colors of all our shining lights. The Fayette County Public Library is located behind the Fayette County administrative complex in downtown Fayetteville, at the southwest corner of Highways #85 and #54.
