Mr. and Mrs. James Allan Nygaard of Atlanta announce the engagement of their daughter, Alden Elizabeth Rivers, to Carter Woodward Potts, son of Dr. and Mrs. John Murray Potts Jr. of Fayette County.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Royster of Athens and the late Clarence W. Royster, and Mrs. Anne Rivers Cole of Atlanta and the late Marion Pinkney Rivers. She is a graduate of The Westminster Schools and the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She made her debut with the Atlanta Debutante Club in 1998. She currently is employed by Harry Norman Realtors.

The future groom is the grandson of Mrs. Frances Woodward Suddath of Jackson, Miss. and the late William Edwards Suddath Jr., and John Murray Potts Sr. of Florence, Ala., and the late Mrs. Celestine Roden Potts. He is a graduate of Woodward Academy and the University of Georgia where he earned a business degree in finance. He is the financial services director of the Lloyd Insurance Group.

A spring wedding is planned.
