Peachtree City, GA-February 7, 2009—A speak out event involving all chartered Toastmasters International clubs within Fayette County occurred Saturday, February 7, 2009. Bob Jensen, President, Peachtree City Toastmasters issued an invitation to “speak out” to both High Noon Toastmasters of Fayetteville and Westpark Toastmasters of Peachtree City. This event varied from the usual Toastmasters International club meeting. From 9:30. to 11:30 a.m., ten speakers from the three clubs presented speeches ranging in length from four to eighteen minutes. Of the ten speakers, three made presentations from advanced manuals, meaning each had previously received the status of Competent Communicator from Toastmasters International. The remaining seven made presentations from the Competent Communicator manual. This manual, the first received by a member of Toastmasters International, leads the speaker through the process of creating and delivering a speech covering specific objectives.

“I’m afraid, but I trust you,” stated Alan Reyes, High Noon Toastmaster member, as he participated in Charles Clarke’s presentation. Clarke’s presentation covered how someone can “walk through their fears”. Jean Raines, member of Peachtree City Toastmasters, held the audience spellbound with her presentation of project six in the basic manual, Vocal Variety. Vocal she was, variety she had. Her voice became “The Valley Girl”, “The Southern Belle”, even morphing into “The Girl from Long Island, New York”. Tom Nguyen, a kick-box champion and member of Westpark Toastmasters, used his kick-boxing skills to emphasize points made in his presentation.

Reid Spearman, president Westpark Toastmasters and Terrance Lawrence, president High Noon Toastmasters agreed with Jensen in that, “This speak-a-thon is the first of many.”
