Why can’t conservatives see that 20 years of their ideas have led to bust?

I have just read Mr. Rettmann’s bombastic letter defending Rush Limbaugh and criticizing President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid and Kennedy (I’m not sure which one). He even goes so far as to call these government officials, all of whom are or were elected by the people, followers of Lenin, Marx and Alinski.

His argument, I think, is that the current, elected, government is going to end American prosperity.

It would be refreshing and uplifting if just one disciple of Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter like Mr. Rettmann would acknowledge that we are coming off 20 years of conservative government that enabled the current economic meltdown, destabilized the middle east and spent more taxpayers’ money than I can even comprehend. Failed economic policies, failed foreign policy, failed social policies!

It would also be refreshing to hear conservative ideas directed at solving some of the countries problems other than tax cuts for the wealthy, trickle down economics and the making of war.

Mr. Rettmann clearly is one of many Americans that subscribe to the “I’ve got mine, everything is fine” philosophy of life. He fails to recognize that many in this country are not doing so well and that we are not going to be able to move forward while looking backwards.

Finally, Mr. Rettmann refers to himself as a “patriotic, conservative American who dearly loves his country, its opportunities and lifestyle” and thus implies that “liberals” are not patriotic, do not love their country and advocate communism.

I wonder if Mr. Rettmann has served his country in uniform and actually had a battlefield experience, or is he, like so many others, just a flag-waving, saber-rattling, armchair patriot.

It has been my experience that the most jingoistic of us are those whose combat experience is limited to watching Fox News Network.

Please don’t take this personally, Mr. Rettmann. I just get a belly-full of the Limbaugh/Coulter “conservative rhetoric” from time to time
