Gonzalez to speak at Christ Our Shepherd this SundayTue, 02/17/2009 - 4:23pm

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City will present Dr. Justo González on Feb. 22 at 9:45 a.m. González will speak on “The Book of Acts: The Gospel of the Spirit,” from his book by the same name. González is a retired Latino Methodist historian, professor, theologian, author of more than a dozen books, and a contributor in the development of Hispanic theology. He taught at Candler School of Theology of Emory University for eight years followed by eight years at United Seminary. He also served as adjunct professor of history at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, and is now retired from the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta. He was also a member of the Rio Grande Conference of The United Methodist Church. González is a leading voice in the emerging field of Hispanic theology, and is one of the few first generation Latino theologians to come from a Protestant background. With Mexican-American United Methodist minister Roy Barton, González helped found the first academic journal related to Latino/a theology, Apuntes. He also helped to found the Association for Hispanic Theological Education, for which he has twice served as executive council chair. He was the first academic director of the Hispanic Summer Program and helped found the Hispanic Theological Initiative. Christ Our Shepherd church is on the corner of Ga.
