Newnan High School's recently announced valedictorian  Emily Traylor was the recipient of the General Daniel Newnan Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, 2008 Good Citizen Scholarship Award.  She received a cash scholarship award, certificate and Good Citizen pin at the January meeting of the General Daniel Newnan Chapter.

Area high school seniors are invited to participate annually in the Good Citizen scholarship program which includes a resume of high school and community service activities, awards and a recommendation as the high school's Good Citizen.  "Perhaps the most challenging is writing a proctored 500 word essay without notes or references of any kind.   Essays and resumes are judged by an independent panel of judges.  We are very proud of all the students who wrote essays.  Each one was inspiring," commented Judy Gagliano, Good Citizen Chair for General Daniel Newnan Chapter.

Other Good Citizen Awards given for 2008 included Darien LaBeach, East Coweta High School; Ashley Stephens, Flint River Academy; Dottie Smith, The Heritage School; Ann Ryden, Landmark Christian School; and Alex Hanson, Northgate High School.  Each received a $50 savings bond, certificate and Good Citizen Pin at a reception held in their honor at the January meeting.  Traylors' Good Citizen essay and application will go to Georgia State Society DAR for further judging.

The essay topic this year was "Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility For Preserving It."
