'Project Santa' delivers Christmas cheer in 10 countiesTue, 02/07/2006 - 3:17pm

The Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia's fourth annual "Project Santa" raised a total of $6,010 from its members in December that went to making Christmas a more joyful season for children, families and senior citizens in the 10-county region served by the Association. "Christmas is a special time for all of us, no matter what our age," said Jeff Waddle, president of the 630-member professional organization of home builders and others associated with the industry. "We are pleased that we have an opportunity to make this time of year a little happier and meaningful for members of the community who might need a extra measure of attention." The HBA of Midwest Georgia adopted a Spalding County family with five children and shopped from the family's "wish list," providing the children with toys and clothing they included on their list. The mother received small gifts, and the family received a $100 Kroger gift certificate for groceries. Another "wish list" came from 30 seniors at the Senior Center in Greenville, and Association staff and members used the list to purchase gifts that individual residents had requested. Each of the 10 counties in the region served by the HBA of Midwest Georgia received approximately $500 in toys, bikes and clothing. All of the items were distributed in cooperation with the Department of Family and Children Services offices in each county. In addition, an HBA of Midwest Georgia member whose house burned to the ground Dec. 23 received support from the Project Santa fund. The Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia serves members in Fayette, Coweta, Spalding, Meriwether, Heard, Pike, Upson, Lamar, Butts and Jasper counties. More information about the group can be obtained by calling Sandy Boda, executive officer, at the Association office, 770-716-7109. login to post comments |
