Atlanta Police are still investigating the case of a 29-year-old Peachtree City woman found dead of a gunshot wound in a sport-utility vehicle in northwest Atlanta Sunday. Investigators are also attempting to locate the woman’s next of kin.

The woman’s body was discovered in a sport-utility vehicle found in the rear of an apartment complex at 938 Neal St., approximately one mile southwest of the Georgia Tech campus.

Atlanta Police spokesperson Officer James Polite said a passerby Sunday discovered the body of the 29-year-old black female in a Saturn SUV. Polite said the woman’s death appears to have been caused from a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

The search for next of kin took police to Peachtree City. The woman is believed to have lived at an apartment in Harmony Village, though she has not resided there since November, said Peachtree City Police spokesperson Rosanna Dove.

Polite said Monday the sport-utility vehicle is registered to a family member residing in the Peachtree City area. He said a passport found with the woman indicated that she had previously lived in Louisiana and Texas.

Atlanta police are currently using any and all means to locate the woman’s relatives, Polite said. Her name cannot be released until the next of kin are notified.

Polite also confirmed Monday that investigators have come to no conclusion as to whether the woman died in the vehicle or at another location.

The investigation is ongoing as detectives attempt to determine other aspects of the case, such as the events that led to her death and why the vehicle was in that particular neighborhood, Polite said.
