Fayetteville City Council will have a short agenda Thursday night, but it will be one with an uplifting beginning. City employees Timothy Bolton and Karen Austin and E-911 operator Carmen Rivera will receive a proclamation for helping save a life.

Bolton and Austin were working on a sewer repair project Jan. 26 in Apple Orchard subdivision when they saw a neighbor who had fallen and was in cardiac arrest. With the help of Rivera, they worked with the man until paramedics could arrive. The three will receive a proclamation from the mayor and council.

Also at the meeting, council members will consider approval of the sanitation contract and the Sanitation Rate Schedule Resolution.

The sanitation contract with Waste Management expires March 1. After receiving six bids, city staff are recommending that the one-year contract be awarded to CLM Sanitation, the lowest bidder.

City staff are also recommending that if the CLM contract is approved, council members consider the adoption of a resolution that would decrease the monthly sanitation rate from $12.35 to $10.50. A similar reduction is proposed for senior customers. The recommendation would decrease the current $10.50 monthly fee to $8.92.
