The Fayetteville Police Department is seeking local citizens to attend its third annual Citizens Police Academy.

The academy consists of two-hour classes on Tuesday nights starting at 6:30 p.m. March 17. Different areas of police work will be covered each week, taught by certified police officers, supervisors and civilian instructors with special expertise.

Additional class activities include ride-alongs with officers and firearms training.

The goal of the academy is to offer insight into police services so graduates can share their knowledge and experiences with the community.

Anyone interested in attending can get an application at the police department at 760 Jimmie Mayfield Boulevard during normal business hours. The class is limited to the first 25 applicants and the deadline for turning in applications is Feb. 13.
