Combine kids of all ages and sizes, funny clown antics, colorful balloons, stacks of pancakes, paint covered faces, a furry six-foot raccoon named Flapjack, mouth-watering sausage, steaming coffee and a friendly, but hungry crowd of over 3,000 and what do you have? Give up? It’s the 17th Annual Pancake Saturday sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City! The big day, designed especially for families, is Saturday, Jan. 31. The place is the McIntosh High School cafeteria on Walt Banks Road with plenty of free parking. Serving hours are from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. The all you can eat menu consists of fluffy pancakes, maple syrup, sausage with a touch of spice, orange juice, milk, coffee and tea. Take-outs are available for those folks who can’t stay to enjoy the fun. Tickets are just $5 and are available from any Kiwanian or at the door. All proceeds are returned to the community through support of service projects or donations to deserving charities. If ice or snow results in school closure, the event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7. Referred to as “Peachtree City’s premier mid-winter social event”, this year there is a significant addition. This is the first major event of the year that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the founding of Peachtree City. Each of Peachtree City’s previous mayors was invited to attend. They will be introduced to the crowd at 9 a.m.. There is a special pancake eating contest at 10:30 a.m. featuring a representative from each of the city’s seven departments. The Fire Department will have a fire truck parked outside for the kids to inspect while the Police Department will exhibit their CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) trailer for people to tour. A variety of entertainment is offered. Clowns from New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville will create balloon animals, offer face painting for the kids and entertain the adults. Members of the McIntosh and Starr’s Mill High School’s Key Clubs will distribute helium-filled balloons and help decorate young faces. A strolling barbershop quartet will croon the old tunes. Flapjack the Raccoon will be present to hug the kids. A pancake eating contest is scheduled for 11 a.m. for children ages 12 and under with a gift card going to the winner.
