Architect picked for library roof

Coweta County has selected an architectural firm to handle the proposed re-roofing of the A. Mitchell Powell Library.

The project itself has been pulled from this year’s budget due to fiscal constraints, County Administrator Theron Gay told the county commission Tuesday night. But Gay said he wants the preliminary work done in case an emergency crops up with the library’s roof later this year.

The firm of Gardner, Spencer, Smith, Tench & Jarbeau of Atlanta was selected and will be compensated with a flat fee of $15,000. The project’s estimated cost is $157,000.

Speed limit changed on Rockaway

The Coweta County Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday night to lower the speed limit for a small section of Rockaway Road from 45 to 35 mph.

The change makes the speed limit on Rockaway coming out of Senoia a consistent 35 mph all the way to the county line.

The change was requested by county staff after a traffic engineering study of the road was performed after a citizen’s request to lower the speed limit in the area. The newly-changed speed zone extends from Heritage Point Parkway to the county line.

County to help WASA

Coweta County’s Road Department has been approved to provide labor and equipment to help pave a road to the new Shenandoah sewage treatment facility.

The Coweta County Water and Sewerage Authority will be responsible for paying for all materials on the project.

The road was removed from the initial bid for building the plant to keep the costs down, and recent bids for the project came in very high, WASA officials noted.
