Motorists traveling along I-85 in Coweta County should expect delays during part of the first week of the new year. Georgia Dept. of Transportation (GDOT) said Monday that one southbound lane will be closed near the Ga. Highway 14/U.S. Highway 29 intersection Jan. 5-7.

Continuing work in the expressway widening will require that one southbound lane be closed near the intersection between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., according to GDOT Dist. 3 Communications Officer Kimberly Larson.

Larson reminded motorists that speed limits have been reduced during the construction period and will be strictly enforced.

Travel update information can be obtained by calling 511 or by visiting www.511ga.org

The scheduled completion date for this project is Dec. 31, 2009. Larson said motorists should expect shoulder and lane closures on a continuing basis and are advised to use extra caution in construction work zones.
