Congressman Lynn Westmoreland will be speaking to the breakfast meeting of the Fayette Republican Party on Saturday, Jan. 3, at 9 a.m. at the IHOP in Fayetteville.

In 2007 Congressman Westmoreland was awarded the "Defender of Economic Freedom Award" by the Club for Growth organization. He was one of only 55 members of Congress to earn this recognition. The award honors members of Congress who have a strong voting record on economic growth issues. “With his score of 92, Congressman Westmoreland is a champion of the pro-growth agenda,” said Club for Growth president Pat Toomey. “Congressman Westmoreland demonstrates a strong commitment to economic freedom and free-market principles.”

The award is based on certain votes that the Club for Growth tracks on its scorecard.  The study included a comprehensive examination of each lawmaker’s record on pro-growth policies and computed an Economic Growth Score on a scale of 0 to 100.  A score of 100 indicates the highest support for pro-growth policies.  Those lawmakers scoring 90 or higher receive the Defender of Economic Freedom award.

Congressman Westmoreland is a strong supporter of making the Bush tax cuts permanent, cutting and limiting government spending, and replacing the current tax code with the FairTax.  At Saturday's breakfast he will be sharing his insights into the upcoming administration and Democratically controlled Congress.

The informal breakfast meeting is held the first Saturday of every month and is open to all in the community to attend.  Breakfast may be ordered at 8:30 a.m. with the meeting beginning at 9 a.m. For more information about the monthly breakfast meetings and other upcoming Republican Party events contact the Fayette GOP headquarters at 770-716-1545 or go to www.fayettecountygop.org
