One thing quickly led to another Dec. 20 when Fayetteville Police conducting a road check at Ga. Highway 54 and Booker Avenue smelled alcohol on a motorist. He was subsequently charged with driving under the influence, possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Officers at the weekend checkpoint smelled alcohol when Robert Culpepper, 36, of Jonesboro, brought his vehicle to a stop, according to Fayetteville Police spokesperson Glenn Askew.

While speaking with Culpepper, officers noticed a small bag in plain view on the floor of the driver’s side, Askew said. A check of the bag revealed that it contained suspected cocaine, Askew said. A further search of the vehicle revealed several small bags of marijuana, Askew added.

Culpepper was charged with driving under the influence, possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, Askew said.
