The Senoia City Council is expected Monday night to select an architectural firm to draw plans for the city’s new police headquarters.

The move has been postponed from previous meetings to hammer out various issues including some legalities, city officials have said.

The new station will be located at a three-acre site on Howard Road near the city’s ballfields. The land was purchased from Southern Mills for $232,000.

Monday’s meeting starts at 7 p.m. at City Hall in downtown Senoia.

In July the city estimated that it will cost $1.3 million to build and be funded through a combination of impact fees, Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds and general obligation debt.

The city was considering just making improvements to City Hall instead which is also being used as police headquarters, but the City Council decided it would be best to have a new police building.
