Georgia Public Broadcasting premieres Dixie Divas in the KitchenTue, 12/09/2008 - 3:44pm

Popular Southern Media Personalities and Friends Barbara Dooley and Ronda Rich Are "Sharing great recipes, one story at a time" “Southern women and cooking go together like cornbread and buttermilk,” says popular columnist and best-selling author Ronda Rich. Rich joins radio talk-show host and author Barbara Dooley to host the GPB Original Production, Dixie Divas in the Kitchen, which premieres on GPB Television Saturday, December 20 at 2 PM and encores Sunday, December 21 at 6 PM and Monday, December 29 at 8:30 PM. Dixie Divas in the Kitchen is a cooking show like no other that features the best of Georgia recipes and the stories behind them, prepared by the folks who hold them close to their hearts. “Most of us who are truly from the South are great cooks, know great cooks, or have heard about great cooks that we grew up around,” says Dooley, a radio talk-show host, author and wife of former University of Georgia Athletic Director Vince Dooley. Guests for the program include popular WKHX FM radio host Dallas McCade, who shares her recipe for Mexican cornbread. Cookbook author Sallie Ann Robinson brings the flavor of the Georgia coast to the program with her recipe for smothered shrimp and grits. Food writer Elizabeth Lee shares a recipe for pound cake and the secret to its moisture. Gena Knox, chef and CEO of Athens restaurant Fire and Flavor shares here recipe for rosemary cheese sticks. Finally Louis Van Dyke, owner of the historic Blue Willow Inn and Social Circle, share the recipe for a true Southern favorite – fried green tomatoes. “This show is a natural for us because it brings together three things that Barbara and I both love: cooking, friends and storytelling,” Rich adds. “Behind every family recipe is a story, so we look forward to bringing those stories and great recipes to the wonderful viewers of GPB.” Viewers can interact with the program and submit their family recipes on the Dixie Divas in the Kitchen website at www.gpb.org.
