City also changes policy for amphitheater operations

The Peachtree City Council approved a new $1.2 million budget for the city’s tourism association Thursday night.

Tourism officials said the budget was the same as previously approved by council, just without the expenditures related to the Frederick J. Brown Jr. Amphitheater. The city recently assumed direct operations of the amphitheater which was previously overseen by the tourism association.

For now the association is continuing to operate the city’s tennis center though it is being planned for the city to assume those operations next year.

To accommodate the amphitheater operations, the City Council voted unanimously to tweak its purchasing policies to allow flexibility for the amphitheater manager to negotiate talent. The finance department will still review the contract prices to make sure they’re in line with the amphitheater budget that has already been approved by council, officials said.

Council also voted Thursday night to continue The Fred’s relationship with The Show Business Sound and Lighting for up to $140,000 for the coming year; the company has been handling the lights and sound system at the venue since 1997 and recently installed a new sound system at the facility.

The annual contract will automatically be renewed each year through 2012 unless either party gives written notice at least 60 days prior to the renewal date.
